The Bottom
Each silhouette is cut from matt, black vinyl. They look very fine and delicate but they aren't, delicate that is. This vinyl is a lot stronger than you expect it to be and it isn't likely to tear by accident. Basically you peel a silhouette from it's backing and stick it on top of a finished painting. You can put them exactly where you want them, ie where they will look best in your painting. For anyone who is just starting wax painting, they are a lot easier to use than pre-printed silhouette cards. You can 'go with the flow', see how your painting turns out and then work out which figure you are going to put in it. There are 7 different sheets of silhouettes available, with between 8 and 14 assorted figures on each sheet. The sheet size is 9.5cm x 13cm. For examples of how I've used them have a look at some of my Originals. All the seahorse ones, some of the cats, the smaller unicorn and the shadow ships all done this way.
These silhouettes can be used for many different crafts, not just encaustic painting. They will stick firmly to most surfaces. If you need to remove them at a later date, heat them up and they will peel off, though that's not a good idea to heat one on a wax painting.
