Low Temperature Soldering Iron - £24.95

This soldering iron will melt wax but that's about it, I haven't even managed to burn papaer with it.
Use it to draw into/on to a painting.
If you are able to draw, that is.
If like me, you can't, you can still use it to finish off a picture. By adding birds, flowers, dragonflies etc, even a castle, but only ones in the distance, close up ones need too much detail for me.

It is very low wattage, only 10W, so it does take about 10 minutes to get hot enough to use but once up to the correct temperature it remains there. Mine is often left on for hours, ready to pick and use when I want it.
It works on either a 110 or 240 volt suppply. It sorts that out itself, you don't need to change anything, no switchs to switch or buttons to push.
However it does has a UK plug, so will need an adapter if you are using it outside the UK.

It comes with two drawing tips and one brush tip.
The drawing tip has a split in it, so that it acts like a fountain pen. You 'dip' it into the wax block and then write with it.
The brush head is made up of plated copper wire bristles.
Lay the bristles on top of the wax. The melted wax soaks into them, and you can then use it like a normal brush.
Don't 'dip' the brush into the wax, that tends to tangle the bristles and shortens it's life.

Example of the sort of things you can do with the soldering iron

In this picture the background was painted with a travel iron. That includes the sky, hills, water, bushes and rocks.
The overhanging branches, flowers and reed heads were done using the drawing tip.
The individual leaves on the branch and the reeds stems were done using the brush tip.

To change tips, turn the soldering iron off and let it cool down. Then slacken off the small screw at the hot end of the iron, the first tip will then slide out and you can replace it with the other one. Tighten the screw before you turn the iron back on.
