The idea of this site is to explain what modern encaustic painting is. How encaustic painting works, and to show some of the things that can be done with painting wax and an iron.

There should be enough information here, that, with the right materials, you can go away and have a go at encaustic painting, yourself.

All the pictures shown here were painted by me, Chris Carrick, using Dehan Painting Wax.
Some of the prints have computer work in them, the original paintings were scanned, then played with in the computer and/or photographs added.

If you have already come across encaustic painting, I'd like to think that this site is a good source of ideas and maybe a few hints and tips you haven't come across yet.
